Nursery school, Spilamberto, Italy
Designed to support energy savings of up to 35% , the Completa extensive green roof enhanced the sustainability of the Nursery School in Spilamberto, Italy.
The construction of the “Le Margherite” nursery school was commissioned by the Municipality of Spilamberto, with a primary focus on creating a healthy environment for the children. Sustainability was therefore a key priority, achieved through improved energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and a streamlined construction process.
Architect Anita Cova designed a simple layout that provides direct access to the surrounding green area, creating a closer connection to nature. Sustainable materials were used across the project, from the wooden supporting structure to the finishing surfaces.
For the green roof, the builders chose Completa – a pre-vegetated modular tray made from recycled plastic, offering multiple advantages, including:
- Fast and easy setup by simply placing and locking the modules,
- Protection of the waterproofing membrane,
- Enhanced insulation for improved energy efficiency,
- Reduced runoff by improving stormwater retention,
- Increased green spaces in the area,
- Minimal maintenance without mowing or irrigation.
The project met the CasaClima B energy standard, becoming the first nursery in the Emilia Romagna region to receive such certification.
